Findlay building new Subaru dealership on West Sahara

Findlay Subaru of Las Vegas General Manager Burton Hughes has seen his sales increase year-to-date by 20 percent at 2025 S. Decatur Blvd., in a building that is more than 30 years old.
That said the 50-year-old Hughes cannot wait to see the sales results when he moves into a sparkling new 14,030 square-foot, two-story showroom now under construction at 5385 W. Sahara Ave. next to Saturn of West Sahara.
“This is going to be a signature store,” said Hughes, who has been in the car business for 14 years. “By that, I mean the store will be one of Subaru’s state-of-the-art architectural designs.”
Ground was broken on the dealership last week. The grand opening should be in January, according to Hughes.
“We are supposed in a down economy, but Subaru’s April sales were up 22 percent nationwide,” explained Hughes, who moved to Las Vegas from Kona, Hawaii in 2000. “We are already having good results in a store that is three decades old, and I can’t wait to see the results once we get into the new store.”
Hughes is spearheading a brand that has been in the Findlay family for more than 30 years. He added that Subaru’s sales are being driven by models that include the completely-redesigned 2009 Subaru Forester, which was introduced in April.
The 2009 Subaru Forester model features standard side-curtain airbags, with rollover sensor, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system and Brake Assist safety system. A rollover sensor activates seatbelt pre-tensioners and the side-curtain air bags.
In addition, USA Today recently christened the new Subaru Forester saying “What a nice change. Subaru, a pioneer in crossover SUVs, has enlarged its small Forester SUV, given it a better suspension, furnished even the base model with all you probably need and cut the starting price $1,200.”
Hughes said the 2008 Subaru Impreza line is also doing well after being was completely redesigned. Also redesigned in ’08 were the Tribeca crossover SUV, Outback wagon and the Legacy sedan.
“I honestly feel that I’m representing an incredible manufacturer in Subaru and when you consider that Cliff Findlay builds Taj Mahal-like dealerships, you could not possibly ask for a better combination,”
Hughes added.
In addition, Surbaru’s core values are based on environmental responsibility, Hughes added.
“Case in point, the Subaru Indiana Automotive plant was the first in America to achieve zero landfill status,” explained Hughes. “It was also the first in the U.S. to be designated a wildlife habitat, so it’s protected. They have various kinds of wildlife on the grounds.”
Hughes said Subaru has the most fuel-efficient all-wheel drive lineup in America. All Subaru models are all-wheel-drive.
Findlay Subaru of Las Vegas is part of the Findlay Automotive Group of dealerships, which were founded in 1961 by the late Pete Findlay, whose son, Cliff, now leads new and used car dealerships in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Idaho.
